Useless and a waste of time

The tweet is being reposted on Facebook with the comment:

“How can anyone look at these two and think they are the same person?”

Facebook foolishness

I mean, really … it’s almost as if two images taken …

  • with two different cameras
  • using two different types of lenses
  • in two different locations
  • with different lighting sources
  • from different angles
  • before and after the subject endured a life-threatening health emergency
  • and an extreme weight loss between the photos

… couldn’t POSSIBLY look any different.

(In case it’s not clear, yes, that’s sarcasm.)

Old Jeff - New Jeff
Old Jeff – New Jeff

The photo of me on the left was taken in 2018. That’s 247 pounds of pre-treatment Jeff with a cancerous tumor the size of two golf balls on and in the base of my tongue.

The photo of me on the right was taken months later. That’s 182 pounds of Jeff after 33 radiation treatments, 5 rounds of chemo, and 2 immunotherapy treatments.

It’s remarkable how few differences there are between those two photos, isn’t it?

(Yeah, more sarcasm.)

The tweet below is being presented as “proof” that Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman was replaced during the time between his stroke and completing treatment for the depression brought on by that stroke by an imposter.

Sen. John Fetterman, D-MN with Sen. John Fetterman, D-MN
(Both of these are Sen. John Fetterman, D-PA)

Really?

Our hatred for all things “them” has now devolved into attacking the guy who had a stroke and accusing him of being some kind of Manchurian goatee dude?

Seriously?

I just wish there was some clear instruction about how we, as believers in Jesus Christ, are supposed to respond to this type of hatred of and vitriol directed at “the opposition” in our government.

“Remind the believers to submit to the government and its officers. They should be obedient, always ready to do what is good. They must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show true humility to everyone.

“Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. But —

“When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of his grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.

“This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. These teachings are good and beneficial for everyone.

“Do not get involved in foolish discussions about spiritual pedigrees or in quarrels and fights about obedience to Jewish laws. These things are useless and a waste of time. If people are causing divisions among you, give a first and second warning. After that, have nothing more to do with them. For people like that have turned away from the truth, and their own sins condemn them.”

If your first thought in response to this was, “Yeah, but they …” you need to reread the part about “quarrels and fights” that are “a useless waste of time.” Keep rereading it until your, “Yeah, but they …” becomes an, “Uh-oh, did we …?”

(Note: No, I’m not claiming to be perfect at this. Yes, I am a lot better than I was when I was a professional “culture warrior.”)

Right now, the percentage of adults in the United States who believe their sins are forgiven and they will spend eternity in heaven solely because of a personal faith in Jesus Christ … who say the Bible is their source for spiritual truth, and that they actively attempt to incorporate their relationship with Jesus into their daily lives is …

6.

Six percent.

SIX PERCENT of American adults are committed, Bible-believing, Jesus-following, people-loving Christians.

Please, tell me, again, how our hate-filled political attacks on those with whom we disagree are drawing people to Jesus?
